Bakery a favourite with the RFDS
SEGAFREDO’S Bakery has been named as one of the top six country bakeries by the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria.
Flying Doctor staff and volunteers were polled recently, asking them to share their favourite bakery and go-to sweet and savoury order.
“The Flying Doctor’s DNA is based in rural and remote communities,” said the organisation’s manager of communication and brand and engagement Jonathan Green.
“That means our staff and volunteers have true local knowledge, like, where to get the best pie or vanilla slice.
“While we received an overwhelming number of recommendations, ultimately six champions were crowned as an Official Refuelling Stop of the Flying Doctor.”
Elmore Bakery, Nooy’s Cakes and Hot Bread Shop at Robinvale, Numurkah Bakery Café, Jack’s Country Bakery in Sale and Sharp’s Bakery at Birchip were also nominated.
“Local bakeries are integral to many rural communities,” said Mr Green.
“They are often the first to put their hand up to sponsor local sporting teams and their noticeboards hold upcoming events and points of interest.
“The walls are always covered in thank-you certificates from local organisations – they really are so much more than ‘just a bakery’.”
Each week RFDS Victoria road crews travel hundreds of kilometres to deliver health, social and well-being care to rural communities, with country bakeries important refuelling stops.
In the last financial year, RFDS Victoria road crews transported more than 58,000 patients by road, delivering primary health care services to rural communities.
“Just like bakeries, our RFDS Victoria road crews are heavily involved in their local communities,” said Mr Green.
“They live and work in these areas and they truly do care for the community in every sense.
“Everyone knows that stopping regularly is an important part of safe driving.”
