STAFF at Heathcote Health held a bake-off last week in support of the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea.

The entries were judged on taste, presentation and creativity.

Seven entries were received: Biscoff Cheesecake, Grandma’s Apple Slice, Garden Party Tea Cake, Dulce de leche, Savoury Shape Cup Cakes, Not Quite Christmas in July, and Banana cake.

Jo Stanford, Michelle Chapman and Jim Staggard happily offered their services to taste test the entries.

Judges Jo Stanford and Jim Staggers from Heathcote Health and residents Francis and Pricilla from the Aged Care facility, agreed it was a tough job, but someone had to do it.

Executive assistant at Heathcote Health, Michelle Chapman said Pricilla and Francis were chosen to represent residents after offering well thought-out feedback on meals at the facility.

“There were some brilliant entries with very different ideas,” said Pricilla.

Jo Stanford and Jenny Casey (back), with Francis and Pricilla, thought all the entries deserved a prize.

“It’s really good because everyone has different tastes.”

Aged care corporate services manager Andrew Walker who organised the event said Heathcote Health has been holding bake-offs in support of the Cancer Council for several years.

“We always like to help,” he said.

Francis and Pricilla from the aged care facility were chosen to help judge the entries after offering constructive feedback on the hospital’s meals.

“We spend our days helping those who are not well, and it is good to do something that might prevent a future illness.”

First prize was won by John the Chef with his Not Quite Christmas in July creation.

There were three equal second prizes, going to Chantelle (Biscoff Cheesecake), Michelle (Garden Party Tea Cake) and Andrew (Dulce de leche).
