Bendigo’s community carols return
THE heart-warming nostalgia of the sound of sleigh bells is set to fill Rosalind Park once again when the Bendigo Rotary Carols by Candlelight return for the 51st time on 19 December.
This year’s line-up includes Romsey-based mezzo soprano Gabriel Macura with double bass whiz Ben Gibbons, soprano Cayt McDougall, balladeer Shelly Rodrigues, the Bendigo Youth Choir accompanied by pianist David Steed, the City of Greater Bendigo Brass Band, and the amazing Goldfields Ukestra ukulele group.
Bendigo Rotary Club president Peter Reading said the enduring local carols event remains a highlight in Rotary Bendigo’s annual calendar.
“The Rotary Club of Bendigo aims for this to be a true family event in a safe environment,” he said.
“We encourage people of all ages to come along and enjoy the music and sing along with the choirs.
“Services available on the night will be a barbecue, coffee vendor, ice cream vendor and drinks. It is an alcohol free event.
“Also available for purchase for the children will be Santa hats, glow sticks and general merchandise.
“A highlight of the evening will be the arrival of Santa in his sleigh along with the reindeer.”
Concertgoers are encouraged to make a gold coin donation on entry, with funds raised going towards building children’s playground facilities at Bendigo Health as part of their annual appeal.
The Bendigo Rotary Carols by Candlelight take place on 19 December in Rosalind Park, with the Bendigo Theatre Company’s Kids Christmas Concert kicking off at 6pm.
