Big freeze, golf day returns for MND support
A LOCAL fundraising effort in support of motor neurone disease charity FightMND is back on at the end of this month with a golf day and big freeze event.
Although a rare condition, Bendigo local Julie Baird has been disproportionately affected by the disease, having lost several friends to it over the past few years, as well as her husband 12 weeks ago to a similar condition.
Ms Baird has been running the golf day and big freeze event in town for several years and this Saturday is hoping to raise close to what her crew raised last year for FightMND through the event.
“Money’s a bit tighter this year, it is hard, and there’s so many charities, so if we could raise at least $15,000 I would be so happy,” she said.
“Les my friend died, and then I’ve got two other friends with MND, and so I started it all up because Les died, and then I lost two friends with MND, and then 12 weeks ago my husband died.
“It’s sort of a bit more sentimental this year because he didn’t actually have MND, but he had MSA and Parkinson’s, so very similar to MND.”
The golf day and big freeze will be held at Belvoir Golf Club on Saturday 29 September from 10.30am, and more information and tickets can be obtained through contacting Ms Baird at 0428 250 786 or [email protected].
