TWO bowlers from Heathcote are set to participate in the inaugural Annabelle Cleeland MP 2024 Parliament Bowls Cup on Monday 18 March.

Peter Cunningham and Brian Taylor will be joined by bowlers from Benalla, Euroa, Murchison, Seymour, Violet Town, Nagambie and Avenel at the event.

The Cup will take place at Parliament House, home to the oldest bowling green in Victoria still in use.

Nationals Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland, said the event was set to be a fantastic occasion.

“This tournament promises to be a fun opportunity for camaraderie and friendly competition, bringing together clubs from throughout the region,” she said.

“I look forward to sharing the joy of bowls and fostering connections within the bowling community.”

Ms Cleeland has shown support for local sporting clubs, advocating for such organisations across the electorate to receive funding support under the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

“Our local sports clubs are providing people with a strong sense of community, belonging and an active lifestyle, and deserve all the support they can get,” said Ms Cleeland.

“The proposed infrastructure upgrades I have seen will benefit the community immensely, including upgrading facilities and improving accessibility for female athletes.”

Peter Cunningham said bowlers from all the clubs are looking forward to the event.

“It will be a fun day and include lunch and a tour of Parliament House,” he said.

“There are 24 players altogether and we will play two games each of Classic Fours on the three beautiful greens.

“We are hoping it will become a regular event.”
