VETERAN Free Riders from Heathcote assisted and supported the Black Dog Ride in Seymour last weekend.

The annual Veteran Free Riders 1 Dayer aims to start a national conversation about depression and suicide prevention.

“Our participation was all made possible by generous help from Heathcote Lions Club,” said Veteran Free Riders member Dan Fitton.

“They helped fund a trailer which we used for bike recovery during the event.

“Luckily all bikes and riders made it home safely.

“The day was a huge success and enjoyed by all.

“All credit belongs to the organisers of the Black Dog Ride.

“The Black Dog Group aim is to highlight issues around depression and suicide.

“We are very grateful to the Lions Club.

“Many more events will be possible now that the Veteran Free Riders have this asset to assist vets and first responders with local and Victorian based outings.”

The Veteran Free Riders was formed four years ago and has nine members in Heathcote.

“It brings isolated vets together and gets people off the couch,” said Mr Fitton.

The group has a team that regularly races in Broadford.
