Janet Howden calls the line dancing moves every Monday at Heathcote and on Thursdays at Tooborac.

SILVER Star Line Dancers held their annual mid-year social last weekend with a pirate theme.

Dancers from Tooborac, Kyneton and Nagambie joined with the Heathcote group at the RSL Hall.

“It was a fantastic afternoon,” said group leader Janet Howden. “Everyone had a great time, and it was really good to see dancers from other groups.”

Ms Howden has been dancing for more than 30 years.

“I started in Melton,” she said, “then we moved to Heathcote 13 years ago.

“Lots of people kept asking if I would start a class here so I started Silver Star Line Dancers 10 years ago.

“We have fun and keep fit but, most of all, it gets people out of the house. It is a very social activity.”

Participants praised Ms Howden who has had several health issues.

“I’m a breast cancer survivor,” she said, “and an asthmatic.

“Doctors brought me back to life after one attack and I told them they had to make sure I was okay for the next class. I was.

Meryl Grant leads the line followed closely by Ron Grant.

“I am very grateful for everyone who helps each week, particularly Lauren Grant and Vanessa Baker.

“I couldn’t do it without them.”

Ms Grant said line dancing helps her keep her sanity.

“I love line dancing,” she said.

David Leach knows all the moves.

“Since the very first day I have made lasting friendships, and I wouldn’t be without it.”

Following the social, participants enjoyed dinner at the Commercial Hotel.

Silver Star Line Dancing classes are held on Mondays from 12pm at the Heathcote RSL Hall and on Thursday evenings at Tooborac Community Hall from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Cost is $10 and everyone is welcome. For further information call 0403 684 277.
