HEATHCOTE Library will host a free Make-a-Poetry-Zine Workshop next month facilitated by local poets Amanda Collins and Dave Munro.

The workshop will be held on 1 October from 10.30am to noon.

Whether you are a practicing poet or have always wanted to be, the practical workshop is suitable for all ages.

Participants will learn how to make a basic zine, explore some poetry, and take away a set of zine creations.

“Zines are an easy and fun way to get your poetry and thoughts out into the world,” said Ms Collins.

“You don’t need to already be a poet to take part in the workshop.

“It is an all-ages gathering. If anyone has an inclination to make zines, they should definitely book in.”

A zine, short for magazine or fanzine, is a small-circulation, self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, reproduced via a copy machine.

“Events at the library are a safe and friendly way to give something new a go,” said Mr Munro. “Poetry can be many things, including fun. BYO rhymes and berets, we supply everything else.”

Ms Collins and Mr Munro will also be facilitating workshops on 24 September at Woodend Library from 10.30am to noon and at Romsey Library from 2-3.30pm.

Bookings are required through Eventbrite.
