Debut mystery novel for local author
BENDIGO wordsmith Amy Doak celebrates the release of her first ever young adult work of fiction next month and quite fittingly will mark the occasion with a launch event at the Bendigo Library.
Wendy Bridges, from Hargreaves Street independent bookshop Bookish, is set to host the occasion.
Titled Eleanor Jones is Not A Murderer, Doak said the idea for the book was born from a love of mysteries and thrillers when she was younger.
“I’d always thought I’d love to write something for that age group (young adults),” she said.
“A few years ago, a friend of mine had a little girl. Her name is Eleanor Jones, and I told her then that she’d make a great lead character in a novel someday.
“That, combined with an idea I had for a mystery, was how Eleanor came about.
“It’s targeted towards teens, but I hope adults enjoy it just as much. And, even though there are some topics that are more teen related, clever younger readers won’t be traumatised by the content!
“Anything really scary or awful happens off the page. I’d say anyone who enjoys a fun, fast-paced thriller with enjoyable characters will love Eleanor.
“I really hope everyone enjoys it and supports it so I am able to keep doing this!”
Join Amy Doak and Wendy Bridges for the release of Eleanor Jones is Not A Murderer on Friday 1 September, between 6pm and 7pm, at the Bendigo Library.
