REHEARSALS are currently underway for the Mudbrick Motley Theatre production of Dirty Deeds at the Diggings, a colonial melodrama set in the Heathcote Goldfields.

Director Maree Hingston is seeking two more cast members for the production.

“Unfortunately, we have lost two cast members due to work commitments,” she said.

“We need one male and one female to fill the roles of hero and heroine.

“No singing is required, and anyone interested can call me on 0409 565 432 to arrange an audition.”

Ms Hingston described the melodrama as a product of 19th century theatre.

“There is a pure-hearted heroine pursued by an evil villain, and eventually saved by the brave hero, accompanied by cheers and boos from the audience,” she saic.

“Our local cast are learning lines and rehearsing old songs, many of which were written in the 19th century.

“This is a way of emulating the format of the British Music Hall, in which performers encouraged audiences to join in the chorus of the popular songs of the day.

“It is an entertaining show which will have two performances only at the RSL Hall.

“The first performance will be on Sunday afternoon, 3 August, followed by an evening show on Saturday, 9 August.”

Entry will be $15 per person by cash at the door.
