Do your bit for the Good Friday Appeal
THIS year Heathcote Lions Club will be rattling tins for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal for the fifty-second time.
Co-ordinator Greg Speirs is asking anyone with an hour or so to spare to come and lend a hand.
Volunteers can contact Mr Speirs on 0408 332 235 or drop into 33 Playne Street, Heathcote on Good Friday morning to be allocated an area.
The Lions are also looking for someone to take over co-ordination of the Heathcote collection from 2024.
The service club has collected more than $366,000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital over the past 51 years but no longer have the resources to continue in a local leadership role.
Mr Speirs said he had been the Heathcote appeal co-ordinator for 36 years and had been collecting for 44 years.
“It’s been a pleasure gathering funds from round here for the benefit of the kids,” he said. “But it’s become too onerous for me to keep going.
“We really need somebody new who’s prepared to run it.
“It doesn’t matter where it’s run from, I’ve run it from home for convenience, but it could be done from a sporting complex, anywhere really.
“I’m quite happy to help them through the start of it, but it’s just got too much.”
