Easter festival plans bigger than ever

THE program for this year’s Easter Festival has been revealed and there’s some new events on the agenda to go with the returning traditional favourites.

The annual festival is Bendigo’s longest running community event and will take place across the Easter long weekend.

“Our homegrown festival delivers an outstanding program,” said City of Greater Bendigo spokesperson Cr Rod Fyfe.

“Where visitors and residents can experience living history, parades and wonderful cultural performances showcasing Bendigo’s Chinese heritage, together with contemporary attractions.”

This year’s program includes favourites like parades, easter egg hunts, markets, and carnivals but there’s also a new Kaleidoscope exhibition from the team behind some of Australia’s biggest and most well-known interactive art installations.

“The creator behind House of Mirrors will unveil a new installation, Kaleidoscope,” Cr Fyfe said.

“It’s a mesmerising mix of light and sound in a mirror maze, which will be on in Rosalind Park. This is a ticketed event and booking is required.”

Cr Fyfe said organisers are expecting a large crowd for the four-day festival.

“By releasing the program now, it allows people to plan ahead so you can attend all of your favourites,” he said.

“The Bendigo Easter Festival is a big draw event, attracting around 80,000 people across the duration of the festival.”

With the success of the festival built in part on community volunteers, Cr Fyfe said organisers are looking for as many people as possible to help.

“As we prepare for this year’s event, we are also calling for volunteers aged over 15 to help out at the festival in various roles,” he said. “Volunteers have a lot of fun being part of the festival.”
