IT’S time to put your training gear on and get ready for this year’s O’Keefe Challenge.

The O’Keefe rail trail will fill with runners on Saturday, 6 May, and registrations are now open for the 42.5-kilometre marathon, as well as a number of other options including a half marathon, a five-kilometre run/walk and 500 metre junior superhero dash.

Event director Nigel Preston said it was a great opportunity for people to increase their health and fitness.

“Runners will also experience the O’Keefe rail trail,” he said. “It’s such a fantastic community asset, and the five-kilometre route travels along the McIvor Creek.”

Mr Preston said it would be a great day out for everyone.

“This year we’ve moved the event to a Saturday so it coincides with the local Heathcote market.

“There’ll be lots of things for people to do while some of the family are off running, and we’ll have community games and activities for the kids.”

The O’Keefe Challenge is on Saturday, 6 May and early bird registrations can be made via theokeefe.com.au.

All proceeds from the O’Keefe Challenge go to the Heathcote Dementia Alliance and help improve the design and delivery of new dementia care services.
