FOURTH generation showman Charlie Miller was recently presented with a plaque commemorating fifty years of membership in the Showmen’s Guild of Australasia.
Mr Miller was born into showbusiness, as were his parents, grandparents and great-grandparents working at agricultural shows, rodeos and other events.

He worked beside his father Hugh in his factory for many years making hundreds of rides for shows and major shopping centres.
He has also worked as a delegate overseeing shows and was senior vice-president of the Victorian Showmen’s Guild.
“It is an honour to receive recognition,” he said. “I have so many good memories.
“Even when things are difficult it is an adventure because you learn something.
“I try to make a good time out of everything, including the bad days.
“I get a kick out of things and really love to see people happy in sideshow alley.
“I have worked all over the country and visited every state.
“I still love it all and have no plans to retire.”
Mr Miller was named after his Uncle Charlie who lived at Harmony Lodge, High Camp, near Kilmore and worked his Houdini Water Torture Cell sideshow at the Heathcote Show in 1953-54.
Over the years, Mr Miller has worked children’s and teenage rides, shooting galleries, mobile food wagons and other sideshows.

He will be working in his food canteen at this year’s Heathcote Show which will be held on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 4 November.
“I look forward to it every year,” he said.
“It is great to work in my home town alongside my fellow showmen.
“And seeing all the locals enjoying themselves is always great.”
