Feedback sought for Urban Design Framework
THE City of Greater Bendigo is seeking feedback on the Heathcote Urban Design Framework.
The project is a set of guidelines which aims to create a vibrant township centre for a growing population.
The guidelines consider elements such as how tall buildings should be, where green areas are located and how streets should be designed.
It focusses on improving public spaces, supporting businesses, preserving heritage and cultural sites, and considering Heathcote’s unique values.
“This is an opportunity for Heathcote to plan for a well-designed, vibrant, safe and attractive town centre,” said City of Greater Bendigo manager strategic planning Anthony Petherbridge.
“The goal is to create attractive, functional, and liveable places for people to live, work, and enjoy in the future.
“Residents can tell us what they think the town centre needs by visiting our Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo online platform. “They will be invited to complete a brief survey and add comments or suggestions to the map.”
CoGB will also hold information sessions during the public consultation period, and community members are welcome to chat in person with staff. “Contributions will help to guide the development of the Urban Design Framework and address future needs for Heathcote,” said Mr Petherbridge.
Examples of things that could be included in an Urban Design Framework are parks, green spaces, street trees and landscaping, footpaths and pedestrian access, cycle lanes and bike parking, seating areas, and public toilets
How buildings look, community centres, public art and cultural features, street lighting, signage and wayfinding also come under the framework.
Information sessions will be held on Friday 23 August and Thursday 29 August from 10am to 4pm at the CoGB Customer Service Centre, 125 High Street and from 8am to 1pm on Saturday 7 September at Heathcote Bush Market.
