THE Barn Pet Stock and Feed will host a free session on feeding horses in drought and after the rains come next weekend.
The session will be presented by experienced equine educator and vet, Dr Lesley Hawson.
“People need to be prepared,” said The Barn Pet Stock and Feed co-owner William Greenfield.
“Conditions are harsh at the moment, and we have had trouble getting hay in like everyone.
“It is getting harder and harder to buy and people are travelling much further to access it.
“We have had to limit how much people can purchase.
“The session will let horse guardians know how to manage feeding during challenging weather conditions.
“It will be a friendly, practical session.”
Participants will learn what to feed their horses during drought conditions and when rain eventually comes, how much to feed them, when to feed them, and how changing pastures affect horse health.
There will be a question and answer session following the talk.
“Dr Lesley Hawson knows local conditions and understands the needs of everyday horse owners,” said Mr Greenfield.
“The session is free but a gold coin donation to Project Hope Horse Welfare Victoria will be appreciated.
“Everyone is welcome, no bookings required, and light refreshments will be provided.”
Feeding Horses in Drought and After the Rains Come will take place at The Barn Pet Stock and Feed on Saturday 14 June from 2pm.
