Film fest attracts global interest
PREPARATIONS for the 2024 Heathcote International Film Festival are underway.
The committee met recently to discuss entries.
“We are very pleased with the number of submissions received this year,” said committee member Duncan McGann.
“So far, we have had applications for over 60 films from countries all over the world, including Spain, UK, USA, Mexico and Nepal as well as many Australian entrants.
“The festival committee is currently viewing all entries received and will finalise selections in the coming weeks.
“The chosen films will be a mixture of genres and styles, with something for all tastes.
“We hope to provide both thought provoking and entertaining short films for all festival attendees.”
Earlier this year the festival received a boost with a Bendigo Bank Community grant allowing the committee to purchase a projector, sound system and large screen.
“Although the festival is quite small, it is enjoying a growing stature in the filmmaking community as we continue to develop the festival’s offerings and word spreads,” said Mr McGann. “This year, Mandalay Resources have generously provided the festival with an Emerging Filmmaker Prize valued at $500.
“This prize is aimed at encouraging new filmmakers and to help them lift their profile.
“It is gratifying for the committee to see so many local businesses get behind the festival with sponsorship and prizes.”
The festival will be held from 13-15 September.
