Firefighters for the future

EAGER youngsters attended the Heathcote Fire Brigade information day for its cadet firefighting program, Juniors, last weekend.

The session was well attended by children of all ages.

“We had a really good turnout,” said firefighter Clint Beattie.

“It was great to see so many kids interested in learning about what junior and senior firefighters do.

“We will commence junior sessions on Monday afternoons, early in August.

“It is a great opportunity to see firsthand what is involved with firefighting.

“They will have an opportunity to try the pumps, learn how to read maps. and all about radio operations.

“Anyone else who is interested can contact the station.”

Liam Holdsworth gave a thumbs-up to his ride in the fire engine.

 

Kerry Holdsworth brought her three children, Charlotte, Liam and George, to the session.

“There was a note on the school newsletter,” she said.

“I thought it was a great opportunity for them to learn more about the processes and procedures involved with the fire brigade.

“They had a great time and are really interested in everything.

“The volunteers were wonderful, showing them all the equipment and letting them try on helmets and jackets.”

The CFA Junior Volunteer Development Program, Juniors, is run by over 160 brigades across Victoria.
