Foodshare takes holiday help on the road
Bendigo Foodshare has declared it is determined and well prepared to fill in the gaps during the Christmas-to-New-Year period while other similar local organisations are closed.
Opportunities to access the charity’s mobile Christmas food pantry, with no questions asked or appointments necessary, will run from 27 December to 5 January, between 1pm and 3pm each session.
The locations across the six windows will be Eaglehawk Community House on 27 December and 3 January, Good Start Early Learning Centre in Kangaroo Flat on 28 December and 4 January and St Vincent de Paul in Kangaroo Flat on 29 December and 5 January.
Foodshare CEO Michelle Murphy said that as the holidays can be a particularly hard time to access food support, and with less food relief organisations open, their Christmas Food Pantry is ready and willing to come to the fore.
“We recognise this Christmas will be a difficult time for many people, not only from the rising cost of living but also the impacts of the floods,” she said.
“Throughout the year we supply food to around 40 schools, kinders and childcare centres, of which most close for the summer break, which impacts hundreds of families’ access to food relief over this period. As well, many of our local food relief partners and their mostly volunteer teams take a break too.”
“Our Christmas Food Pantry is free, open to anyone – no questions asked, and you don’t need an appointment.
“Our volunteer teams are waiting to offer support to anyone who needs it.”
Along with the pick-up locations, the mobile Christmas food pantry is also backed by Bendigo, Bendigo South and Sandhurst Rotary clubs and the Y Service Club of Bendigo
