BENDIGO Animal Relief Centre (BARC) is offering Heathcote residents the opportunity to have their cats and dogs microchipped for free today.
The event will take place at the Heathcote Community House from 9am to 11am.
Residents will also be able to check that their pet’s microchipping details are up to date, learn about the City of Greater Bendigo’s community cat desexing program, and provide feedback on the Domestic Animal Management Program, which is currently under review.
“Residents in Heathcote may face more barriers in accessing our services located in East Bendigo, what with limited public transport options, which can be difficult to navigate with pets,” BARC operations manager Fra Atyeo said.
“We hope that by running a microchipping event in Heathcote we can increase the number of Heathcote pets with microchips, especially those born on rural farm properties who are statistically less likely to be microchipped.
“Heathcote is also one of the five suburbs BARC and the City of Greater Bendigo are providing discount cat desexing to.
“Eligible residents can have their cat or a community cat desexed, microchipped, and vaccinated for as little as $20, so this is a great opportunity to speak to our staff to find out more about the program.”
Heathcote Community House executive officer Vicky Forde said this is a great opportunity for residents to connect with these services.
“We are very pleased to offer the community house as a venue and I hope everyone who needs it takes advantage of this excellent opportunity,” she said.
Cat and dogs must be in carry cases or on leads.
