HEATHCOTE Library recently concluded four weeks of celebrations for Jane Austen’s birthday with a high tea.

Organisations around the world celebrated the 250th anniversary of the author’s birth.

The library hosted four Regency-inspired sessions last month.

“In celebration of the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, we hosted a series of engaging programs, from Regency letter writing and paper-quilled gift cards to cameo silhouettes, all designed to capture the elegance and creativity of the Regency era,” Goldfields Library coordinator Elise Wright said.

“Our final session, the Regency High Tea, was a lovely morning, well attended and full of charm.

“Guests enjoyed a delicious morning tea, along with a variety of Jane Austen-inspired activities like paper dress origami, flower arranging, a Jane Austen-themed jigsaw puzzle, and Dance Card Trivia.”

Sue Bier attended the sessions and said she thoroughly enjoyed the activities.

“I want to thank Elise and Hannah for a wonderful series of Jane Austen activities and especially for the high tea morning,” she said.

“They were great activities.

“We had a beautiful morning tea and it was lovely to see the fashions of the era.”

Another attendee, Fiona Hanlon, was equally impressed.

“It was a great Jane Austen High Tea; fun, literature, tea and cake,” she said. “What more could you want?”

Heathcote Library Christmas-New Year hours are: Thursday 25 December-Thursday 1 January, closed; open as usual from Friday 2 January 9.30am-12.30pm.
