WHROO Goldfields Conservation Network will conduct a free workshop to help landowners to identify both native and introduced grasses in our area.
The workshop will be led by ecologist Geordie Scott-Walker.

“Geordie will show us how to identify which grasses are okay and which grasses need to be controlled or exterminated,” said Lorraine Tinker from the Whroo Goldfields Conservation Network.
“There are many species which are dangerous to local wildlife and domestic animals.
“Geordie will provide guidance on how to foster the good grasses and remove the bad ones.
“Participants will each receive a copy of Grasses of Central Victoria to help identify the different species.
“We are all very excited and there has been a lot of interest in the workshop.”
The workshop will be held on Saturday 22 November beginning at 1pm at the Senior Citizen Hall, 121 High Street, Heathcote.
“We will start with tea and coffee and an introduction by Geordie,” said Ms Tinker.
“That will be followed by an outdoor tour of nearby grassland and should conclude by 4pm.”
Participants should be prepared with suitable clothing, including sun hat, sturdy shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.
It is also advisable to bring water for the walk. The workshop is a free event, but places are limited.
