HEATHCOTE residents attended a Get Fire Ready session at the fire station last weekend to learn how to prepare properties for the upcoming fire season.

While there they enjoyed a free sausage sizzle with activities and fairy floss for the kids.

“It was good to see lots of residents coming along to seek information about preparing their properties,” said community safety coordinator Evan Pritchard.

“They were able to chat with CFA volunteers over a sausage while the kids enjoyed looking at the fire truck and some fairy floss.”

Heathcote CFA has launched the Property Advice Visit Service Program.

“We have identified properties within Heathcote as having significant fire risk,” said Mr Pritchard.

CFA volunteers Peter Hooke and Fred Miller manned the barbecue.

“To assist everyone in identifying and treating risks the brigade can provide a one-on-one free property visit.

“The Property Advice Visit Service has been developed for rural residents.

“It will help residents to understand their local fire risk and prepare properties for summer with helpful hints and tips.

“They will be able to plan for bad days and make good decisions.

“We provide information on whether to leave early or to stay and defend your property and information about bushfires and pets.”

Anyone who would like to take advantage of this free offer can contact Mr Pritchard by emailing [email protected] or calling 0417 178 658.
