A UNIVERSE of discovery awaits at an out of this world fundraising event.

Set for this Saturday at the Discovery Science and Technology Centre, money raised during the event will go towards the new Bendigo planetarium.

While entry to the centre is free, visitors are encouraged to purchase a book of tickets which they can use to take part in activities.

On offer will be face painting, science shows, UFO making, a rocket launch, the Mars rover, and testing virtual reality equipment.

The event is extra special as Discovery is normally closed at this time of year for regular maintaince.

“We are really excited about the new planetarium, and we want everyone else to be too,” Discovery manager Alissa Van Soest said.

“This fundraising day is going to help us get closer to our goal of raising $650,000, and I thought what better way to get everyone excited to reach for the stars than through a space themed carnival of fun.”

The new planetarium will include a dome theatre and laser projection technology.

More than $300,000 has already been raised thanks to community donors, the City of Bendigo and the State Government

Funds raised at Saturday’s event will be matched by a philanthropic organisation.

The Discovery Science and Technology Centre special open day is set to take off between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, 25 February.
