Helping to build community resilience
A safeTALK workshop will be held in Heathcote on Thursday 15 August aiming to equip community members with the skills to become suicide alert helpers.
The half-day alertness session is facilitated by LivingWorks and organised by Lifeline Loddon Mallee.
The event is funded by Murray Primary Health Network for anyone who lives or works in Heathcote or surrounding areas.
“Participants learn to recognise when someone is thinking about suicide and connect them to an intervention provider, such as an ASIST trained helper,” said Lifeline Loddon Mallee executive officer Lisa Renato.
“Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die but are struggling with the pain in their lives.
“Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive.
“Using a simple yet effective model, LivingWorks safeTALK empowers everyone to make a difference.
“We know that when our smaller regional community members attend this training, it helps build resilience and support networks with our towns.”
The workshop is set to run from 9am to 1pm at Heathcote Barrack Reserve Pavilion. To reserve a place visit bit.ly/3WP8FsL.
