FIFTY-five audience members enjoyed a night of laughter at comedian Damian Callinan’s presentation of Hall Stories recently.
Mr Callinan is currently visiting venues across Australia with shows especially shaped for each hall he visits.
“Damian’s stories were wittily enacted with shrewdness and skill,” said Maree Hingston, advocate for Engine Room Productions which brings performances to regional towns across the region.
“He took us on a journey, aided by a series of screen shots, to each country town in which he had performed across Australia.
“Damian became many characters, giving us a glimpse of the comic moments revealed in each community hall with its committee rules and local idiosyncrasies.
“Audience involvement was encouraged when Damian invited a couple of people onstage for a quiz related to the RSL Hall.
“His adlibbing added to the fun, as we all gained an insight into our hall’s history.
“He also took a selfie with a small group of smiling attendees, which will no doubt be added to his collection for his upcoming shows.”
One audience member, Jane, summed up the privilege she felt by having such a professional show in our own town.
“Last night’s performance provided a night out with friends, ideas to think about, laughter and warmth in the exploration of what makes rural life so engaging and a fabulous sense of communities at their best.”
Engine Room productions come to Heathcote throughout the year and are subsidised by the City of Greater Bendigo and Regional Arts Victoria.
