Indigenous Film Festival tonight

THE Heathcote screening of the Central Victorian Indigenous Film Festival will be held tonight in the McIvor Room at the Barrack Reserve Hall.
The free screening is presented by Advance Heathcote Inc and the City of Greater Bendigo.
This year’s screening is Sweet As, a 2022 Australian coming-of-age drama, directed by Jub Clerc and starring Shantae Barnes-Cowan and Mark Coles Smith.
Sweet As tells the story of Murra, an Aboriginal Australian girl from a troubled family, who discovers a passion for photography while participating in a youth retreat.
It is set in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
On the cusp of being lost in the child protection system, an unusual lifeline is thrown her way by her uncle Ian, the local police officer, in the form of a unique Photo Safari.
Sweet As has beendescribed as an uplifting coming-of-age road movie about unconventional friendships, first crushes and finding who you are on the road less travelled.
The Indigenous Film Festival is free with a light supper and local wine at bar prices.
Doors open at 6.30pm and the screening starts at 7pm.
