MITCHELL Shire’s new kerbside collection service will officially begin next month.
The changes include the introduction of food and garden organics and glass recycling bins to the municipality’s kerbside services.
The collection frequency of the general rubbish bin will also change to a fortnightly collection.
“To help residents adjust to these changes, Council has developed the My Mitchell app,” kerbside transition communications officer Erin Cowan said.
“This app provides a personalised bin collection calendar and bin night reminder notifications.
“Residents can also access collection schedules and waste disposal information on the app or Council’s website by entering their property address.”
The new collection schedule will be food and garden organics (green lid) collected weekly; mixed recycling (yellow lid) collected fortnightly; general rubbish (red lid) collected fortnightly (on the alternate fortnight to mixed recycling); and glass recycling (purple lid) collected monthly.
Residents can put lawn clippings, food scraps, weeds, leaves and garden prunings, eggshells, meat bones and dairy products in the food and garden organics bin.
The mixed recycling bin can take cardboard, paper, milk cartons, newspapers, plastic drink containers and cans, with items to be placed loosely in the bin and use of bags to be avoided.
General household rubbish, nappies, baby wipes, animal droppings, kitty litter, broken crockery and soft plastics go in the red lid bin, while the glass recycling bin is for wine bottles, beer bottles, jam jars, pasta jars and olive oil bottles.
Lids are to be removed and placed in the general rubbish bin.
