THE State Government’s L2P Program has reached one million hours of helping young people learn to drive.
The program, which has operated since 2009, matches learner drivers aged 16 to 21-years-old who cannot access a car or a supervising driver with a fully licensed volunteered mentor and a car.
More than 7500 volunteers take part in the program and have assisted more than 23,000 young drivers.
“The TAC L2P Program plays a vital role in empowering and enhancing a young person’s confidence by teaching them to drive safely and reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities among young drivers,” Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said.
“Gaining a licence also enhances a young person’s confidence and social independence allowing them to engage with their friends and community, helping them access employment opportunities and education.”
Volunteers are provided training and access to a L2P car.
