HEATHCOTE and district residents met with members of the local police force for an informal talk on farm and property safety last weekend.
Hosted by The Barn Pet Stock and feed, attendees enjoyed a barbeque cooked by SES volunteers.
“It was really good to talk to residents,” said Sergeant Holly Lembke.
“It’s nice mingling with the community in an informal setting and discussing farm safety and it was very good of Sharon and William to arrange this.
“The one of the biggest things I can remind farmers is to always lock their cars and homes.
“Opportunistic thieves will take advantage of any opportunity.
“And always keep firearms locked away when not in use.”

Co-owner of The Barn Pet Stock and Feed, Sharon Greenfield, said she was pleased to be able to give back to the community by hosting the event.
“It is good for both adults and children to get to know our local police,” she said.
“They can offer tips and hints we might not have thought of, and we can never be too careful with our safety.”
In support of SES fundraising efforts for a new 4WD Medium Rescue truck, The Barn is running a raffle.
“The goods in the prizes were all donated by our suppliers,” said Ms Greenfield.
“Call in and buy a ticket to support the great work the SES do.”
The raffle will be drawn on Saturday 11 October when The Barn will be holding a special birthday party for Chrissie the dog.
