THIS year marks 250 years since author Jane Austen’s birth, and Heathcote Library is celebrating along with groups and organisations around the world.
Heathcote Library has begun a four-week celebration with activities for everyone.
“We have four Regency inspired programs taking place as well as a display of Jane Austen’s books and books inspired by her stories,” said community library officer Hannah Thomson.
“We have a Jane Austen puzzle set up that people can sit down and add to whenever they’re in.
“On Wednesday 3 December we will have a Regency letter writing session where participants can discover the art of elegant correspondence with folded letters and wax seals as Jane Austen might have sent.
“We will make paper quilling gift cards on Wednesday 10 December, creating a beautiful handmade card.
“For children from ages seven and up, there will be a Cameo Silhouette Making session on Thursday 11 December.
“Children can create their own Regency-style portraits using paper silhouettes.”
The Jane Austen celebrations will conclude with a Regency High Tea and actvities on Saturday 13 December.
“The Regency-themed morning tea experience will be inspired by the elegance and social customs of England’s Regency era (early 1800s),” said Ms Thomson.
“Participants are welcome to come dressed in period attire and enjoy activities fit for a Regency lady or gentleman.”
Bookings are encouraged for the event and can be made through the Goldfields Libraries website or by phoning the branch on 54333734.
