Local brigades collaborate on fire safety
TOOBORAC CFA joined with Nulla Vale and Pyalong CFA for an Open Day and Community barbecue last Sunday at Tooborac Mechanics Institute Hall and Recreation Reserve.
A Fire Safety Essentials Meeting was led by Community Safety Officer Sharon Hibbert.
Ms Hibbert spoke to attendees about all aspects of fire safety.
“It is important to have a fire plan,” said Ms Hibbert.
“Decide when you will leave or stay and what to take if you leave.
“Things to consider are cash, medications, pets, clothes, identity documents, mobile phones and chargers.
“It is a good idea to have an emergency kit prepared including jeans, boots, hats, masks and googles.
“Know what to expect if a fire approaches your property.
“It can mean the difference between survival or not.”
Jason Hagan from Tooborac CFA said it was good that the three brigades could collaborate to allow their communities to learn more about fire safety and meet their brigade members.
“Sharon gave a good presentation, reminding people to think about what they will do in the upcoming fire season,” he said.
“The session was well attended, and everyone was able to learn what to do to prepare their properties.”
Following the Fire Safety Essentials session, attendees enjoyed a free community barbecue and free face painting for the kids.
