AFTER a spate of burglaries in Heathcote and the surrounding district, Heathcote Police are reminding residents not to be complacent about locking door and cars.

Residents are also being urged to store firearms appropriately and not leave them on cars.

“After a number of incidents police are urging the community to lock their vehicles and homes,” said officer-in-charge at Heathcote Police Station, Sergeant Holly Lembke.

“Opportunistic criminals have found it easy to steal vehicles both in town and on rural properties as thieves take advantage of residents’ complacency.

“I want to prevent another resident waking to find that someone has been in their house or stolen their vehicle.

“Please stay vigilant.”

Residents are also urged to report any suspicious behaviour and call Heathcote Police Station or 000.
