New health service build progressing
THE construction of new kitchen and laundry facilities at Heathcote Health is well underway.
Heathcote Health applied for a Regional Health Infrastructure Fund grant in March 2021, and were subsequently successful, with $1.9 million allocated to the project.
“Our existing and very busy kitchen was constructed in 1932,” said Sandy Whytcross, Heathcote Health customer and consumer relationship manager.
“As our health service has grown since it was built and with the co-joined aged care facility and acute and community services, it is now time to give it a new location at Heathcote Health.”
The tender was awarded to Raysett Contructions in November 2022, with the official start of the building works commencing July 2023.
“The new facility will be closer to all our residents and patients, creating a more efficient service for them and the staff working there,” said Ms Whytcross.
“Our internal Laundry is for our residents’ daily clothes washing and the new space will be more spacious and modern than the existing laundry.
Ms Whytcross, cleaning supervisor Judy Polson and catering supervisor Jenny Casey along with maintenance supervisors Will Garnsey and Frank Dailey have worked hard in the background to get the project up and running.
“As with all building site works there are always some interruptions, and we applaud the public for being so understanding of our limited parking spaces at the moment,” Ms Whytcross said.
“But in February 2024, we will have a brand new building and we can’t wait.”
