U3A Heathcote members gathered last week for a creative workshop on how to make a mosaic tea pot stand and Easter baskets, led by artist Fiona Hackett from Cobram.
Hackett is the sister of U3A president Nancy Miller.
“Fiona gave each participant a tile with a pictured design of the smaller tiles that would fit onto the bigger tile,” said Ms Miller.
“Each design was different, and the smaller tiles were pre-cut to allow enough time for the workshop. Participants then glued the tiles onto their design.
“Once all the tiles were glued, we had a break as Fiona showed many of the mosaics and other artwork she has completed for various art shows in her area.
“Then everyone mixed grout to finish off their tea pot stands. Everyone was very pleased with their handiwork.”

While one group worked on their mosaic tea pot stands, another group, led by Ms Miller, made Easter baskets.
“By cutting a paper cup into slits down to the base they made the framework for weaving the wool or raffia used to create the basket,” said Ms Miller.
“We had examples on display, and this was a source of ideas on what colours to use.
“Soon members were weaving in and out to create colourful baskets that were finished off with pretty decorations. Now they just need to buy some small Easter eggs to fill their baskets.
“The morning was filled with lots of laughter, chatting and learning new skills. We embraced the U3A motto of learning, living and having fun.”
