Now you can get sports gear from the library!
A NEW initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and eliminating barriers to participation in sports activity has been launched at Heathcote Library.
As part of the program, people will be able to hire sports gear from the library the way they would a book.
Known as the Heathcote Sports Equipment Library, the collection boasts a comprehensive set of sports equipment, catering to all ages and skill levels.
“Membership to the Sports Equipment Library is free for all residents of the Heathcote community who have a Goldfields Library membership,” said Elise Wright, coordinator of community-based services with GFLC.
“From basketball, skateboards, scooters and balance bikes to tennis rackets and protective equipment, our extensive inventory ensures everyone can find the right gear for their preferred activity.
“This initiative is designed to make keeping active accessible to families from all walks of life, promoting a healthier and more active community.”
The City of Greater Bendigo partnered with Goldfields Libraries to deliver the Sports Equipment at Heathcote.
The program is funded by VicHealth through the Local Government Partnership.
In early 2023, municipal staff asked children living in Heathcote and District what equipment they would like to see if a sports library was established in their town.
The library will provide families with access to sporting equipment they may not have the opportunity to have at their home.
“With the weather warming up and the school holidays just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for children to have fun and get active outdoors while being SunSmart,” said Ms Wright.
“Children between the ages of zero and 17 can borrow sports equipment for up to three weeks, free of charge.
“Heathcote Library is open Tuesday 9am to 12pm, Thursday and Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12pm.”
