Park get together a celebration of a nation
EVERYONE is welcome at the Picnic in the Park at Barrack Reserve on Australia Day.
Free ice cream, a petting zoo and musical entertainment are just some of what’s on offer.
Heathcote RSL sub branch secretary Miles Humphrey said the best thing about the event was the family atmosphere.
“On a hot day, but in the cool shade of Barrack Reserve, all sections of the community come together to enjoy a relaxing get-together,” he said.
“Some people bring their own picnic spread and are entertained by our musicians, while others enjoy the petting zoo.
“There’s face painting this year too,” he said. “And all partake in the free sausage sizzle and delicious ice cream.
“Overall, while some come and stay for an hour or so, or are just passing through, many find the atmosphere so inviting they stay for the duration.
“The day reminds us all that despite the trivialities of everyday life, we really do live in the best country on earth.”
Picnic in the Park is organised by the Heathcote RSL sub branch and runs from 10 am to 2 pm on Thursday, 26 January at Barrack Reserve, High Steet, Heathcote.
