MORE than 200 people attended the Mudbrick Motley performance of The Old People are Revolting last Sunday.

The cast and crew for the Devon Williamson comedy featured several locals who had never been involved with a stage production before.

“I was very proud of all of them,” said production manager, assistant director and performer Maree Hingston.

“They have been rehearsing since April, each one dedicated and eager to learn.

“It all came together perfectly for the performance, and I hope they will all put their hands up for future shows.”

Ms Hingston said the production was the fruition of a dream. She felt that Heathcote needed to have a good laugh.

“Our town had been down in the mouth after going through COVID and its aftermath and I decided our local theatre group, Mudbrick Motley should be re-established to perform a comedy production,” she said.

Ms Hingston searched and found a play she believed would entertain and have everyone laughing.

“I knew when I read The Old People are Revolting by Devon Williamson, that it would be right for Heathcote and a hit with its off-beat dialogue and non-stop laughs.

Punctuated with double entendre and jokes, the performance was met with enthusiastic laughter and applause from the audience.

“It was fabulous,” said Elizabeth Murphy.

“It was very funny, and I loved it, as did the rest of the audience.

“I think the highlight was the singing of the National Anthem, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Everyone joined in.

“We are very lucky to have someone like Maree to do this for our community and I hope there will be many more shows in the future.”

Ms Hingston has been involved with theatre and acting for more than 40 years.

“It was the culmination of my dream; Heathcote was laughing again” said Ms Hingston at the end of the show.

“Looking forward after some wonderful feedback, I would love to be able to stage more performances in Heathcote with Mudbrick Motley Theatre.”
