Poetry month more than just time to rhyme
APRIL is International Poetry Month and Heathcote wordsmiths are getting ready to celebrate with a full calendar of events and workshops.
Local poet and program co-ordinator Amanda Collins said there was something on offer for everyone from the sonnet set to the haiku heroes.
“People should expect lots of performance poetry,” she said. “They should expect sensational original poetry from our local poets who have been consistently producing extraordinary poetry for five years now.
“There’ll be opportunities for people to create poetry for themselves, it’s going to be huge.”
Coin-operated poets will be at the bush market on the morning of Saturday, 1 April at Barrack Reserve.
Drop a coin in the slot to hear live poetry, both original works and classics, with all proceeds going to Heathcote Ambulance.
Polish Your Poetry workshops at $5 per head and free Shut Up and Write sessions will take place in the Rood Henry Art Space at Palling Bros Brewery, 166 High Street, Heathcote from Tuesday, 11 April onwards.
There will also be events at several other venues including Heathcote Golf Club, the Watering Hole and at libraries across the goldfield’s region.
