ARTISTS and poets from Broadford to Bendigo gathered last Thursday night for the first evening of Poetry to Picture, a joint venture between artists and poets in the greater Bendigo area.

The event was part of a project by Creative Heathcote, a platform where local creatives can connect, share their ideas and keep up-to-date with local creative events.

“Poetry to Picture is a new opportunity for collaborative creativity, beginning with the selection and reading of inspirational poems by local writers,” said co-host Amanda Collins.

Christine Haddrick was one of the local poets who read their work on the night.

“Twelve poets had their poems selected, and many were on hand to share their work at the reading evening, hosted by the Wine Hub, Heathcote.”

Introducing the evening, co-host Deb Wain spoke about the quality of the submitted work.

“If the poets are waiting for some kind of sign to get their work out to a wider audience, consider this your bolt of lightning or whatever you seek as advice from the universe.”

Local artists, many of whom were also in attendance celebrating the local authors, are now invited to respond to works that appeal to them in whatever small-works format they choose.

Poets read or had their work read to an audience of artists who are now invited to respond to the poems in their chosen artform.

Images of completed works need to be submitted by Saturday 4 October, and if selected, will be exhibited at The Wine Hub from Thursday 16 October for at least eight weeks.

“We are so lucky to have such an enthusiastic team of poets and artists here in Heathcote,’ said Ms Collins.

“It makes for such a warm and collaborative space.”
