ENTHUSIASTIC walkers gathered for the first Walking for Beginners group last Friday.

The group is a joint initiative by Healthy Loddon Campaspe and Heathcote Community House.

“Healthy Loddon Campaspe is proud to be working with the community house and Heathcote Health to establish the Beginner’s Walking Group,” said Cara Smith from the City of Greater Bendigo.

“The attendance at last week’s first session showed us that simple, cost-effective ways to be active are popular with the community.

“The group provides a great opportunity for all residents, no matter their fitness level, to be active.

“In addition to the physical benefits, the walking group is a great way for residents to develop social connections within the community.”

The session was attended by members of the community and residents from Heathcote Health Aged Care facility.

“We had happy tears from one resident before we started,” said leisure and lifestyle coordinator Carol Fanning. “Everyone enjoyed it.”

Participants were able to join in at their own pace and mobility level. It was followed by morning tea at the community house.

Everyone is welcome to join the walking group. The sessions begin at 9.30am every Friday at the community house.

“We are looking forward to seeing the walking group grow and continue well into the future,” said Ms Smith.
