Ride for a good cause this Mother’s Day
THE Heathcote and District Pony Club is holding a horse ride on Mother’s Day weekend to raise money for the club, and breast cancer research.
This will be the second running of Pink Nav Day, and riders can register until Friday, 5 May for the trek on Saturday, 13 May.
Event secretary Ashleigh Ayres said last year the Pony Club donated about $500 to the McGrath Foundation.
“Our old district coach who ran this last year, her mother passed away from breast cancer,” said Ms Ayres.
“Because it falls on Mother’s Day weekend, we just think it’s nice.”
Along with the fundraising ride, there’ll also be a prize draw on the day.
Ms Ayres said the raffle prize will include horse-care items as well as luxury products like wine.
Riders can register in teams of two or three, and the club itself has three teams entered with other teams coming from across the district and further afield.
“We’ve got about 20 teams so far,” she said. “We’ve got people from down the other side of Melbourne coming up and a couple coming in from NSW.
“We’ve only restarted two years ago. Starting it back up in COVID, it was really hard.
“We’re trying to get a name for ourselves, so people bring their kids to our club.”
The event will go from 9.30am until 3.30pm, with adult teams riding for 10 kilometres for about two hours, and junior teams riding for three kilometres for about 45 minutes.
