Rural TED talk looking for talent

February 19, 2023 BY

MALDON is set to host an event as part of global information sharing initiative TEDx in early July, and speakers from across Central Victoria are being encouraged to apply to take part.

The talks must have a focus on the local region but also need to have global relevance according to TEDxMaldon founder and director Paul Kooperman.

“Though the talks are going to be by local people on local issues, they will be promoted globally on the TEDx website so they should have relevance globally,” he said.

“That’s what is so exciting about it, it has both a local and a global connection.”

Mr Kooperman said he believes there are individuals right across Central Victoria that have ideas worthy of them taking the stage.

“There are people right around the Bendigo, Maldon and Castlemaine regions that are full of great ideas,” he said.

“So, wouldn’t it be great to bring them all together, record them and give them a platform to reach people.”

Individuals of varying backgrounds and professions are on Mr Kooperman’s wish list.

“We would love to have someone talk on science and how it has impacted the local community,” he said.

“We would like to have someone cover the environment and someone who could talk about education and another on community living. We are looking for a big range.”

Mr Kooperman said submissions and nominations are open till March, with no set end date at the moment.

“We are looking forward to as many submissions as possible,” he said.

TEDxMaldon we only have a licence for 100 attendees for the 1 July event, but all the talks will be available online.
