HIGHER education students from Heathcote and Nagambie are invited to apply for the Community Bank Heathcote & District and Bendigo Bank Nagambie’s scholarship program.

Successful applicants will receive up to $3000 in their first year and this may be renewed for their second year depending on academic performance.

A bank spokesperson said the scholarship program gave local students a deserved and fair chance at achieving their dreams in higher education.

“It is through the support of customers at both Community Bank Heathcote & District and Bendigo Bank Nagambie branches that these scholarships are available to the communities of Heathcote and Nagambie to help get local kids into higher education,” the spokesperson said.

In 2021, the bank awarded a scholarship to Nagambie student Carmelo Gattuso who was able to use the funds to buy text books and to help pay for some of his living expenses.

Carmelo began a bachelor of education at RMIT’s Bundoora campus in 2021 and his mother Pina said the scholarship had been a big help to the family.

“Carmelo can now pay for his textbooks and contribute to the cost of living away from home. The scholarship has relieved some of the financial pressure and helped ease the transition,” she said.

Bank scholarships have helped several district students in recent years and are managed by its Community Enterprise Foundation.

Applications are invited from students starting their tertiary education in 2023 and close on Friday, 27 January.
