FAMILY and friends joined Heathcote Primary School students for a Science Fair recently to celebrate National Science Week.
The event was led by STEM teacher David Close.
Principal Carolyn Crowther said everyone enjoyed the afternoon and there was some enthusiastic feedback from the students and visitors.
“The Science Fair brought weeks of preparation, experiments and creations together to share with the school community of family and friends,” she said.
“Students identified an area of specific interest and either designed an experiment or built a model or invention.
“Among the projects were erupting volcanoes and tests on the impact of different liquids on solids, including which liquid made Gummy Bears expand the most.”
Grade 5 student Reynald built a house.
“Many people loved my house, especially the lights,” he said.

“I had fun talking to people about lights from a battery.”
Hazel in grade 3 enjoyed interacting with her fellow students.
“I liked how I got to walk around and look at everyone’s experiment,” she said.
The variety of projects impressed grade 4 student Teddy.
“I think all the experiments were extraordinary because they all had different methods and it’s good to have that,” he said.
Students are already looking forward to next year’s Science Fair.
“I don’t know why the magnetic slime didn’t work,” said grade 3 student Noah.
“We will try something different next time.”
