Seniors fest seeks regions best
LOCAL groups are being called on to provide low-cost or free activities as part of the next Seniors Festival set to take place in October.
The City of Greater Bendigo is seeking expressions of interest from community groups and organisations to host an event that showcases what they have going on and provides entertainment.
Community partnership manager at the City, Andie West, said organisations could propose any activity that older adults might enjoy.
“Groups and organisations can hold information sessions, events that promote positive ageing, morning teas, craft and gardening activities, tours, entertainment, learning opportunities, come and try days or exercise programs, in fact any activity or event that older adults will enjoy,” she said.
“It’s a great way for groups and organisations to connect with older adults who make up a large part of our population.
“So, if you think your group or organisation can host a great event for older adults then we want to hear from you.”
The Seniors Festival offers an opportunity for older adults to connect and get involved in the community while having a good time or learning a new skill.
It also provides an opportunity for community groups to recognise and celebrate the contribution seniors make in the community.
Interested groups need to register their event or activity by August 19 to be included on the festival program.
Applications can be completed online via the City’s website or by calling 1300 002 642 to speak with a positive ageing officer.
This year the festival has been given the theme ‘learn love live’ and will take place from 1 to 8 October.
As part of the week a seniors concert is planned for Friday 6 October at the Capital View Street.
