BIOLINKS Alliance are inviting members of the public join them for a day of planting and community at the Spring Plains Watershed Repair Project.
The event will be held on Saturday 3 August at Spring Plains NCR, Newlans Lane, Argyle from 10am to 1pm.
“The planting day aims to restore the region’s degraded box ironbark forests,” said Cameron O’Mara, Heathcote Local to Landscape Facilitator, Biolinks Alliance.
“Volunteers will plant various indigenous species to revive the local ecosystem, crucial for biodiversity, water quality, and erosion control.
“The project has involved restoring the Peters Gully catchment area using several ecological restoration techniques, including contour ripping, thinning, direct seeding, and gully ponding to restore hydrology and vegetation structure.
“This day is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Box Ironbark forests, which contain many unique wonders.
“Biolinks Alliance has been collecting extensive wildlife monitoring data to track the project’s impact, ranging from gliders and phascogales to reptiles and invertebrates.
“Participants are encouraged to bring gardening gloves, a hand trowel, and a water bottle. Comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and sun protection are also recommended.
“This event is a chance for community members to contribute to environmental conservation efforts and learn about the importance of native flora.”
