HEATHCOTE Community House executive officer Vicki Forde is seeking interest in a community Christmas lunch.

A community lunch would support those who would otherwise be alone at Christmas and those who are doing it tough.

“Staff at the community house have been approached by some local people, including a chef, who are looking for others interested in helping to put together a Christmas meal,” said Ms Forde.

“The meal would be a boost for those alone and/or families unable to support such an extravagance as Christmas dinner themselves.

“There is currently a grant out via the City of Greater Bendigo for $2000 for such festivities.

“We are not sure if we have enough interested people to help on the day particularly and prior to such an event, with set-up, pack-up, shopping, cooking, prepping, serving and so on.”

Ms Forde said the community house will look to support the idea in whatever way they can.

“This would include applying for the grant and promoting the lunch, but there would need to be many more hands interested and available to help, if this idea is to get off the ground,” she said.

“If anyone is interested in helping in any way, they can let us know at the community house.

“We will need to know as soon as possible as the grant application with the City of Greater Bendigo will need some time to be prepared.”

Interested residents can contact the community house Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 5433 2820.
