Sister acts on stage at CresFest

CRESFEST organisers have announced another batch of artists who are set to play Creswick’s folk, roots, and dance festival in April.

Convenor Judy Turner said the line-up will celebrate exceptional women instrumentalists and singers.

“We’ve got some fantastic female performers coming from overseas this time, which last year we weren’t able to do due to COVID,” she said.

“We’ve got some brilliant instrumentalists coming including Brittany Haas, who is one of the world’s leading fiddle players in the American style… and has been a phenomenal player on the road since she was 14.

“She and Natalie Haas, who’s also a classically trained cellist, are coming out as a sister act, and they’re not alone, because we’ve got several sister acts.

“Charm of Finches, and another young sister band from Melbourne, Apolline, are coming, and they will all be part of a show together called Sister Act, where they play one after the other.”

Ms Turner said Canberra-based musician and diplomat, Fred Smith, and songwriter, opera singer, music theatre and cabaret performer, Ami Williamson, are also on the bill.

“Fred offers political commentary, satire and is very comedic, but he writes in a very heartfelt and moving way about Australian involvement in overseas wars,” she said.

“Ami is bringing her one-woman show to CresFest which is mind-blowing.”

More recently announced artists include Monique Clare, The Maggie Carty Band, Martha Spencer, ZÖJ, Kavisha Mazzella, The Weeping Willows, Bush Gothic, and celtic band Austral.
