NEW foundation students at Heathcote and Holy Rosary primary schools have settled in well, enjoying a range of activities and making new friends.
At Heathcote Primary School, the playground has quickly become a favourite spot for students.
Foundation teacher Kirsty Hamilton said her class had been excited to start the school year.
“We had lots of fun on the first day,” she said.
“The children are enjoying making new friends and settling into school routines.
“At the moment our lessons are centred on manners, and everyone is doing very well.”
Student Toby said he had to be brave on his first day and enjoyed meeting new classmates.
“I like making new friends,” he said.
Ira said she loved being at school.
“I am really happy to finally be at school,” she said. “I love going on the bus with my two sisters.”
Principal Carolyn Crowther said the school’s transition days in term 4 last year had helped ensure a smooth start.
“It’s lovely to be back,” she said.

“Everyone has settled in well, and the transition days have really paid dividends.
“I would like to thank the children, staff and families for making it a positive start to the year.”
It has been a similar experience at Holy Rosary Primary School.
Teacher Ashlea Rigg said the students had settled in well following transition sessions held last year.
“The children are enjoying learning and making friends,” she said.
Student Jessie said she was enjoying the new activities, while Roy said his favourite part of school was learning about maths patterns.
Remy said he loved the playground, Hallie enjoyed sport, and Lyla said her favourite place was the sandpit.
Principal Jen Roberts said she was pleased with the start to the year.
“All the children have settled in well and are engaging with each other,” she said.
“They are very happy, and we are glad the weather has been kinder this week.”
